So Ashley and I are super excited about our All About Eyes Makeup Mixer…its our first class!!! Yay! So let me explain how we came up with the term “makeupmixer:” Instead of referring to our events as an event, class, or workshop, we wanted to put our signature stamp on it! As artists, we are a mixture of all things creative. It’s a mix of product knowledge, technique, tips, color, beauty, style, trend, glamor, runway, couture, amazing interaction, laughter and just some plain ole fun! So we just wanted to mix all of that together and share it with you guys! What better way to celebrate makeup? So we will continue to present you guys with various forms of makeup mixers. So stay tuned!

As of now, here are the details for All About Eyes:
Natural. Smokey. Dramatic. Colorful. Glamorous… It’s all about eyes and how you can transform your eye makeup into something even more amazing! Are you ready to learn the tricks of the trade? Makeup Artists, Ashley Merritt and Kisha Williams will provide a step-by-step tutorial on applying eye makeup. This mixer will be presented by both artists as they create various makeup looks on models as you observe, learn and take notes. Because both Ashley and Kisha want to provide an informative experience for you, they’ve prepared a take-home tool to guide you through re-creating these looks on yourself. Spaces are limited, so please register now to reserve your seat.

Ashley’s Favorite Finds at The Makeup Show NYC

May 24th, 2009 | Posted in News & Updates, Product Previews | 4 Comments »
I tried to narrow this down to 5, but it wasn’t a possibility. So, here is my top 10 purchases from The Makeup Show in New York! There was so much to take in, my head was spinning with excitement. We took some insightful workshops and saw tons of amazing products. Now that I have detoxed from all the beautiful stimuli, I’ve put together this list for all the product junkies out there.

10. Makeup Forever Blister Effects Gel - I’m not even completely sure of everything that I can do with it, but I just get so excited about learning new fx stuff! You can make scars, blisters, burns, etc. I can’t wait to find some guinea pigs from the haunted house to help me practice my techniques. Makeup Forever has just about everything you can imagine and I love them for it.

9. Makeup Forever Aqua Black Eye Liner - Like butter! For those of us (me) who are struggling with the beginnings of crapey eye lids, this is a MUST have. Its just the right consistency to help your brush smooth right over fine lines and not crinkle up in the texture of the skin. I’ve been struggling with relearning my own eyes due to the texture changes in my skin and this eye liner made me wave my hand in the air and shout “hallelujah!”

8. aDesign Flat Top Foundation Brush - It just buffs my liquid foundation so smoothly into the skin. I absolutely love fluffy brush for buffing liquid foundations, but some times I like the coverage I can get from a more firm bristled brush. This one gives me both and I can use it to build if I’m using powder foundation, too! And even though I’m the type to use 10 different brushes on my own makeup just for fun, its not practical for appointments! This brush is multipurpose, making it a must have for my kit.

7. Cylinder Brush Holder by Alcone - Kisha and I have been looking for one of these forever! Its hard, so it can protect my brushes when its closed. It unsnaps into 2 pieces that stand up on my station. I can use one side for clean brushes and the other side for my dirty brushes so I don’t have to lay them on my station!

6. Mally Eye Brightener - I’m usually not one for the “as seen on tv” infomercial makeup, but Mally Beauty really does have great products. Whether this concealer is a gimmick or not, I’m sold. Its a powder that turns to a liquid when you rub it with your finger. You pat it under your eyes with your ring finger and it sets back to powder! The coverage is about medium and it has a very natural finish. I love it!

5. Mally Perfect Prep Primer - Its like silk and velvet had a baby face primer! It feels so smooth on the skin and helps to diminish the appearance of your pores. I don’t care for the fragrance it has, but I can ignore it because I love the feel of the primer that much. I think anyone who uses face primer should try it and I hope you like it as much as I do!

4. Breakfast at Cafeteria - Okay, its not a product, but it deserves to be mentioned! They had cheese grits!!!! Do you know how hard it is to find grits for breakfast up north???? Not to mention warm flaky croissants with honey butter, and pancakes with cinnamon butter, fresh berries, and organic maple syrup. They had really good coffee, too. Cafeteria, you will be missed!

3. Face Atelier Pro Ultra Foundation Set - I didn’t mean to cheat on Armani, but this foundation is amazing. It gives great coverage and looks like natural skin. Its not too dewy, and not too matte, its just right. I still like to give it a once over with some powder. It looks great set lightly with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish pressed powder. My only complaint would be that the kit they were selling didn’t have any deep dark shades, but still a great buy.

2. OCC Lip Tar - It might just be the best thing since sliced bread. This is a heavy duty, super pigmented lip product and its smooth on you lips. It goes on glossy and sets down to a long lasting satiny finish. There is a clear if you want to keep it shiny. They are completely opaque and they come in techno color. I got one of every shade that was left! The best part is that there are only 4 ingredients listed aside from the pigments and its a totally vegan product. One drop will cover your whole lips. I could rave about it for an hour. Every makeup artists needs them in their kit!

Drum roll, please!

1. 2 free round trip tickets to Hawaii!!!! - Of course this is my favorite!!! There was a rolling case with light bulbs inside of it being sold by Giselle Cosmetics. If you purchased the case complete with the entire line of their loose powder mineral pigments, foundations, and blushes for $399, they threw in 2 tickets to Hawaii. Now I sound like an infomercial! I flew to Maui last September and it was 4 times that much for 2 tickets. I still almost don’t believe it. Similar cases sell online for around $1000. The makeup didn’t blow my mind. But, even if I threw away the case and all the makeup (I wouldn’t waste product!), it was worth purchasing just for dirt cheep air fair to the most beautiful place on earth.

Thank you all for being so patient and reading through all my ranting!
Ashley

Ashley’s Top 5 Favorite Products

March 30th, 2009 | Posted in Product Previews | 1 Comment »

Here are a few of my favoites of the moment. Its so hard to narrow it down to five, but I did it. There’s probably 50 products I can’t live with out, but these are some products I REALLY can’t live with out. If any of you have a product that you think should be included, please show us the light! We love to hear from you!

1. Giorgio Armani Liquid Foundations and face products. Armani foundations are little bottles of fantastic. They feel light on your skin and still give the most amazing coverage. They photograph beautifully, too. Luminous Silk, Hydro Glow, Fluid Sheer, Master Primer, and Face Fabric have to tie for my number one or they would take up the whole top 5!

2. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - This is why I love Kisha! We agree on almost everything. This is my favorite eye shadow primer of all time. Its light weight, long wearing, and doesn’t crease. If you don’t have it yet, you need it asap!

3. Body Butter from The Body Shop - I know its not technically a cosmetic product, but its something I can’t live with out. I bathe in it! Its great to keep in your kit for photo shoots and fashion shows to give your model’s legs healthy glow.

4. Lash Blast mascara by Cover Girl - That’s right. Its from the drug store. It makes my lashes long and full - I LOVE it!

5. Nixie Ultra Shine Lipgloss - BEAUTIFUL! Smooth, not sticky and ultra shiny. They smell really yummy, too. Come check them out at our studio if you want to try one on!
Until Next Time,
Ashley

Kisha’s Top 5 Favorite Products

March 27th, 2009 | Posted in Product Previews | 5 Comments »

I’m surfing the net tonight as usual and coming across so many new and innovative products that I can’t wait to try. So, that made me think that I should share my “must have products” with you. I like to think that these products just sets me free! My top 5 fav’s changes often because I tend to get bored with products quickly. It’s not because I don’t think the product is amazing, but because there’s so much creativity with makeup, I just get inspired to try something new. It helps me stay on top of things too:-)  However, these products have been on my radar for a while!! So here goes…

1. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - LOVE THIS STUFF!!!! It’s like butter from my bread!!! It creates a smooth surface on the eye lid before applying eyeshadow, does not add a lot of texture or color, prevents eyeshadow creasing, and increases staying power!!! www.urbandecay.com

2. MAC Fix + - Feels like a cold glass of water after a long workout (you know that kind that quenches your thirst when you haven’t worked out in a long time). It hydrates the skin, refreshes makeup, and believe it or not it sort of wakes up your skin! I like to use this before I apply my moisturizer. www.maccosmetics.com

3. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil - Say goodbye to the liner that runs with or without your tears. I’ve always had a problem with runny eyeliner…that was until I found my new friend 24/7 because that’s how long it stays around. Very smooth, creamy, but long wearing. This one is a keeper. www.urbandecay.com

4. Nixie Ultra Shine Lipgloss - It’s simple-non-sticky, great shine, beautiful colors, and great color payoff.  It’s likes a rich bottle of nail polish for your lips. We love this soomuch that you can get these at themakeupLAB!

5. Mally Beauty Shimmer, Shape, & Glow Face Defining System - This is your everyday red carpet treatment. You get 3 Products in one: You get your highlight, contour, and a little shimmer. What more does a girl need than to have her cheeks glowing more than the sun. You got it!!!! www.mallybeauty.com

Now, I have this love affair with Mascara, but I haven’t quite found the one I’d to marry. So if you have a special chemistry to any, please share them with us and tell us why you love it!!

Until next time…Smooches

xoxo Kisha
